DAVID ERNST, Ph.D.

Executive Director

Dave is graduate faculty and Chief Information Officer in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. Dave is the Director of the Center for Open Education and the Executive Director of the Open Education Network, which works to improve higher education through the advancement of open educational resources and practices.

TANYA GROSZ, Ph.D.

Director of Educational Programs

Tanya is the Director of Educational Programs with the Open Education Network. Tanya began her career as a high school English teacher before completing a Ph.D. in Education and Online Teaching and Learning. After hearing Cable Green keynote at the MN eLearning Summit in 2011, a new love for open education began, and with the OEN’s help, she spearheaded an open textbook initiative at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul which led to the creation of the first Z degree in the state of Minnesota.

TONIA JOHNSON

Digital Content Strategist

Tonia is a marketing communications professional recognized for print and digital content driving strategic outcomes for higher education, architecture/engineering, health care, business, and manufacturing. She earned her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Art and Journalism. When she’s not designing, Tonia loves to be outside walking or tending her gardens.

KAREN LAURITSEN

Senior Director, Publishing

Karen has worked with educational communities for 20+ years and is dedicated to open knowledge production and sharing. She enjoys working with the community to strategically support people engaged in open textbook publishing in higher education. In her free time, Karen likes to create habitat gardens, dance and read.

CHAYENG MOUA

Student Assistant

Chayeng is a second-year student at the University of Minnesota’s College of Science and Engineering, and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. He is the Open Textbook Library Student Assistant, and tends to weekly additions to the Open Textbook Library. In his free time, he likes to go to concerts, fish, and enjoy his time with his Dachshund, Rascal.

ANDY SEROFF

Developer

Andy is a web application developer who previously worked in social media and entertainment technology with startups in the San Francisco Bay Area. He earned his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his M.S. in Software Engineering from the University of Minnesota. In addition to coding, Andy is an accomplished athlete and musician.

BARRY STEHLIK

Administrative Specialist

Barry makes sure everyone gets where they need to go and keeps the network on track. With so many members and continued growth, there is an endless sea of things to do and maintain. Barry handles it all with ease, so we can focus our efforts on helping students.

Director of Community Engagement

Barb loves connecting people and ideas, and appreciates that open education is a catalyst for doing just that. Her role focuses on listening to the needs of the OEN community and facilitating opportunities for members to support one another in their work. She holds a B.A. in Spanish and a Master of Public Affairs, and her interests include environmental sustainability, outdoor adventures and all things travel.

LARANE WAHLEN

Program Coordinator

Larane works with new and returning OEN members to complete membership contracts and answer member questions related to the contracting process.  She also coordinates OEN events and workshops, and provides support for the program application and award processes, including for the OEN certificate programs. Larane earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northern State University.

JAMIE WITMAN

Open Educational Practices Specialist

Jamie is the Open Educational Practices Specialist with the Open Education Network. She serves as the point of contact for all OEN-supported online platforms and technologies and brings experience as a former OER Librarian to advance open educational practices. Jamie earned her MLIS from Florida State University. In her free time, she likes to hike, read, and spend time with her family.
